Fusion restaurants - you are trying my patience.
Why are restaurants trying to be creative by mixing all sorts of concepts from different parts of the world in a single meal?
Whatever happened to a decent Italian meal? A well-organized Japanese bento box. Real Mexican tacos. Spice Thai that makes your toes curl. Or my personal favorite a traditional American burger.
I want food with history, a background and a cultural context. Food that has withstood the test of time, and thereby proven to be a good concept.
It seems everywhere you go now the chefs are into all kinds of idiotic crossovers.
Waiter: Hello, Sir! Welcome to Fritz, Hideko & Gianni’s. Todays special is Chinese prawns studded with Mexican cactus thorns, swimming in Tandoori served with Thai rice, French cheese, English Christmas pudding and grated African rhino skin.
Me: Sounds nice. Is it OK if I pay you in my remaining Australian dollars, pesos, a credit union check and a food stamp?
